Sevilla lies on the banks of the Guadalquivir and is one of the largest historical centres in Europe. Seville is the artistic, cultural, and financial capital of southern Spain. It is the capital of Andalusia and of the province of Sevilla.
Sevilla was founded by Hercules and its origins are linked with the Tartessian civilisation. It has more than 700 000 inhabitants nearly half of the population of the whole province.
The most stunning countryside thickly clad with oak trees, or marvel at the regions imposing religious architecture or sample some of the provinces finest gastronomic treats such as cured sausages and aniseed liquor.
The Archaeological Museum is located in a neo renaissance building. Here you can find an interesting collection of Visigoth, Roman, Moorish and Christian artefacts. Of special importance are the Carambol Treasure dating back from the 650 BC and relating to the old Iberian tribe the Tartessos.
This museum is located in a typical Iberian building from 1929 and hosts a collection of ethnographic themes from Andalucia from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The museum displays antropologic and etnografic collections, such as ancient craftsmanship, agricultural production and furniture.
One of Europes biggest cathedrals is here, the vast Gothic Cathedral whose famous minaret, the Giralda, is the best place for a birds eye view of the city.
It has more than a thousand bars where the choice of food, is virtually unlimited, from seafood to ham and sausage, from vegetable to cheese. The Sevillians actually make a meal of them, moving from bar to bar and trying one dish at a time.
The Sevillians are great actors and put on an extraordinary performance at their annual Feria de Abril, a week long party of drink, food and dance which takes place day and night in more than a thousand especially mounted tents. Above all it allows the men to parade on their fine horses and the women to dance in brilliantly coloured gypsy dresses

The climate is Mediterranean, with oceanic influences. Try to avoid July and August unless you have a tolerance of furnace like temperatures.
