Brazil Soccer not only binds the country into one unit but has also won the admiration of soccer maniacs across the world. The Brazilian players are known for their extraordinary skills on the football field. When they play for their nation, they represent their country's passion and love for the game.
Rio houses the biggest soccer stadium in the country. The sight of the stadium filled with a capacity crowd, painted in national colors of yellow and green, dancing to the samba beats and cheering their home team clearly reflects the popularity of the game in the country.
A glance into the footballing history of the country reveals that the game was probably introduced into the Brazilian mainland by the Dutch and the British sailors in the latter part of the 19th century. The subsequent years saw a gradual development of the quality of the game as well as its popularity. Following the establishment of the very first official club, on August 18, 1898 by Associaco Atletica of Mackenzie College in San Paolo, there was no looking back.
The game got a stadium exclusively for itself with the dawn of the new century in 1900. It was located in San Paolo. Soccer in Brazil was played under the lights for the first time in 1923 in a game between S. E Linhas e Cabos and A.A Republica.
The success of the game and its players at the international level may also be attributed to an extent to the domestic structure. Brazil follows a three tier system within the domestic set up. The three different leagues are:
l Campeonato Brasileiro Serie C
l Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A
l Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B
The performance of the national team needs no introduction. Five times world champion, the list of players who have contributed immensely to the success of the team include names like Pele and the recent crop comprising of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romario, Kaka and Rivaldo. Currently Brazil occupies the 2nd position in the FIFA rankings. The game in the country is managed by the Brazilian Football Confederation.
Brazil, the champion of all football playing nations, has continued to rule the roost in the world of soccer and created a position of eminence for themselves. Other European and South American nations have hardly managed to escalate the heights scaled by them.
